GRANTS PROGRAM

Fundación Segarra Boerman focuses on strategic, trust-based philanthropy, supporting the well-being of the environment and people while promoting equity. The Grants Program supports communities in their self-management initiatives, accompanies partner organizations on their path to becoming stronger, and encourages the amplification of their voices. We are collaborators in the spirit of service and are accountable to those we support. Awarded grants are flexible, unrestricted, and multi-year, allowing organizations to define their budgets and allocate funds where they are most needed, responding to their changing needs. It is our intention to balance established and emerging organizations to ensure representation and diversity of approaches in tactics, regions, and focuses while maintaining consistency and shared values across different types of climate justice and educational work.

As a partner organization approaches the conclusion of its journey within the Grants Program, it is supported through its transition process. These transitions allow us to redistribute resources to other groups while being intentional about providing sustainable and sensitive support to those completing the program. We are committed to ensuring smooth transitions, and organizations have the opportunity to remain part of the FSB community.

In 2026 we will not be adding new organizations to the Grants Program. The design of our social investment process moves away from competitive solicitation processes toward a referral model sustained by trust. Traditional open calls create artificial scarcity and can lead to participants spending a great deal of time only to be rejected, especially when there are few spaces available and many applicants. For this reason, we focus on pre-existing relationships and community wisdom to identify partners through pre-consultative conversations whose work aligns with our shared vision.

It is crucial that philanthropy shifts toward learning and collaboration, moving away from prescriptive, extractive, and overly quantitative metrics. We must adopt a framework that centers on mutual learning and collaboration; recognizes that systemic and historical change takes time; and understands that material results are inseparable from the holistic building of the movement.
